Ben Eller (crazy good guitar teacher) just dropped a video on how to fix flying fingers.
Explain why 'flying fingers' develop in fretting hand and demonstrate exercises and strategies to retrain muscle memory and keep fingers close to the strings.

https://youtu.be/J3ZbNAKPANA?si=pZKahL25BwniddUl Many people have attempted to teach “how to keep fingers close to the fretboard” but I’ve never heard such a fantastic explanation as to its cause. Ben Eller says that when we are first learning to play the guitar, our fingers are not adapted to the guitar yet. However as we learn with our untrained fingers, we start to develop muscle memory with them. Many people articulate this in a different way. We often hear “don’t practice bad habits because later it will be harder to undo them”. But in this particular case I think we don’t have a choice but to practice with our weak fingers, which basically guarantees that we develop wrong fretting habits. Now that my fingers are strong, I’m ready to reprogram my muscle memory!
